Plastic Surgery In A Pandemic World: Safety Protocols Your Doctor Should Use

People still want to look their best – even when few are looking at them. As the pandemic continues and social distancing remains an important public safety measure, cosmetic surgery is resuming across the country. The elective medical procedure was prohibited in most states throughout the peak months of the pandemic, but the phasing in of business reopenings has brought it back. Daily operations won’t be the same as before, though, due to heightened health priorities.

“It will seem and look a little different when a patient visits the office, but the approach by the professional should always be the same: patient first,”

Dr. Scott Miller

Dr. Scott Miller, (, is a cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon. “Plastic surgery requires head, heart, and hands. Head for knowledge and vision, heart for empathy, hands for technical expertise. “Patient safety is always No. 1, but now it’s incumbent on all surgeons to ensure they and their staff leave no stone unturned when it comes to keeping their facility clean. Strict and consistent health and safety practices have to be followed every day.” Dr. Miller discusses what safety protocols patients should now expect at a plastic surgery facility:

  • Pre-screening before arriving. Several days before a scheduled surgery, patients are pre-screened to go over their recent health. “It includes whether they have had any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, sore throat, difficulty breathing, loss of smell/taste, etc.,” Dr. Miller says. “Additionally, you need to know if they’ve traveled anywhere in the U.S. or abroad in the previous three weeks, or if they’ve had any contact with people who had symptoms. They’ll also fill out a form including these kinds of questions when they arrive.”
  • Increased sanitization. “Regular and deep sanitization efforts to keep the facilities as germ-free as possible are essential,” Dr. Miller says. “This includes continually disinfecting common areas and high-touch surfaces, starting from the front-office check-in area to each treatment and exam room before and after each patient interaction. Medical-grade air purifiers that circulate the air are very important. There are also machines that create a suction field over the head of a patient who is receiving facial injectables, clearing the air of potentially infectious particles.”
  • Strict adherence to CDC recommendations. All patients should be temperature-screened when they arrive. “And like many medical and dental offices,” Dr. Miller says, “plastic surgery facilities are limiting and staggering appointments to stay within social distancing guidelines, keeping their waiting rooms mostly sparse. New patients’ first consultations are often done by video conference. Also, patients should wait in their car until the staff is ready for their appointment.”
  • Wearing full PPE gear. “Providers and their staff will have to completely safeguard themselves and patients with increased personal protection equipment,” Dr. Miller says. “Everybody wears N95 respirator masks, gloves, scrubs, gowns and eye protection during direct patient contact. For procedures such as lip fillers, wearing an N95 mask, the surgeon’s approach is from above and the side, thus preventing close face-to-face frontal exposure and avoiding droplets in either direction.”

“People will keep wanting to help their appearance, to get a renewed look back,” Dr. Miller says. “The various ways of cosmetic surgery can still be done safely, and that’s a team effort between patient, doctor, and staff. Everybody has to pay careful attention to ensure safety.”

Dr. Scott Miller

Dr. Scott Miller ( is a board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon and the founder of Miller Cosmetic Surgery Center. He earned his medical degree from the University of California Irvine, College of Medicine and performed his plastic surgery residency at the University of California San Diego, School of Medicine. Reverse Aging, Improve Health & Shed Pounds

“Did you know that using a Glucometer may help you guard against illness, obesity and may help you avoid any virus? Nationally known R.N., MSW, and CHC Candice Rosen, author of Forget Dieting!: It’s All About Data-Driven Fueling, shares a science-based nutrition plan designed to reverse aging, improve health and shed pounds.”

Justin Loeber- Mouth Digital Public Relations

COVID-19 is a wake-up call! Now more than ever, health and weight are major factors in your ability to combat any virus. Today, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the U.S. are dieting; yet we’re getting sicker and fatter. Type 2 diabetes and obesity are rampant—simply because we don’t understand how to properly fuel our body. In her new book, Forget Dieting!: It’s All About Data-Driven Fueling! (Rowman & Littlefield), Candice Rosen, R.N., MSW, Certified Health Counselor and author, shares a science-based, precision nutrition plan designed to reverse aging and improve health…permanently. Rosen, who just turned 66, reveals how she used a glucometer to register the data from her body, which helped her to lose 36 pounds over 12 years ago without any vigorous workouts or any weight gain—ever. Now, you too can keep trim and improve your health.

6 Takeaways Needed To Improve Health And Lose Weight Without Extreme Exercise

1. Avoid the Hospital. The majority of COVID deaths occur in individuals with pre-existing conditions. Age was not the only contributing issue in the mortality numbers of the elderly; they too had pre-existing conditions. A lifestyle that helps you prevent or reverse non-communicable diseases, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, low testosterone, renal issues, some cancers, and more … is not that difficult to envelop.

2. Embrace Food Combining. By combining specific foods and avoiding others will lower blood sugar spikes that put your pancreas and other organs on overload. Would you ever put a milkshake in the gas tank of your car? No! So why feed your body non-nutrient foods that compromise its ability to work efficiently, burn calories and keep you healthy?

3.  Use a Glucometer. Rosen wants every household to keep a glucometer next to their thermometer. By testing your blood glucose level, you won’t need to second-guess your food intake; your body will register what’s right and wrong based on the blood glucose levels 90 minutes after you eat a meal or a snack. Rosen says, “Why follow another person’s universal diet, when your body will give you all the answers you need?”

4. Your Mouth Is Not Supposed to Have a Party at Every Meal! Don’t eat as if every meal is your last. It’s all about fueling your body/organic machine. Give it something to work with: wholesome, nutritious, responsibly grown, pancreatic-friendly foods.

5. Avoid dairy or significantly reduce your consumption. Dairy is highly inflammatory and  is actually linked to increased rates of osteoporosis in women.

6. Make Wednesdays and Fridays Vegan Days. Reduce your consumption of animal protein to benefit your health and reduce animal suffering (think factory farming), and have a positive impact on the environment.

4 Tips For Avoiding Hair Loss From Stress & More

People go partially or fully bald for any number of reasons – hormones, genetics and aging, among others – but since National Hair Loss Awareness Month arrives this August in the middle of a pandemic-fueled recession, one factor is taking center stage.

“Stress certainly can contribute to hair loss because it can affect hormone levels,” says Dr. Patrick Angelos ( author of The Science and Art of Hair Restoration: A Patient’s Guide.  “Any number of stressful events can lead to a sudden loss of hair, although in those cases the hair typically will grow back over time.”

For more permanent hair-loss concerns, Angelos, a plastic surgeon who specializes in hair restoration, uses robotic treatment to help patients regain their beloved locks. That process involves an advanced, minimally invasive hair transplant system that uses technology driven by artificial intelligence.

“Among the reasons patients consider hair restoration is that they want to get back some of their youthful look and feel better about themselves,” Angelos says. “Helping them accomplish that is one of the great satisfactions I get from being a plastic surgeon.”

But for those who want to keep their hair healthy and full now and who hope to avoid ever reaching the point where they need hair-loss intervention, Angelos offers a few tips:

  • Maintain good hair care and hygiene habits. The way you wash your hair could undermine your efforts to prevent hair loss, Angelos says. As you wash, avoid pulling back on your hair because that can put traction on the follicles. “The same goes for combing,” he says. “It’s less stressful on the follicles to wash and comb your hair forward, toward your face, instead of toward the back of your scalp and neck. Also, long hair weighs more, so on its own, it can put more traction on the follicles.” Brushing your hair regularly, however, is good because it massages the scalp and helps improve blood flow and circulation. The condition of your hair should also be in balance – not too oily, not too dry. “Finally, don’t overuse a hair dryer because that can make hair weak and brittle, which can lead to more hair loss,” Angelos says.
  • Treat health issues. Hormonal imbalances and other medical conditions such as low thyroid and iron or iodine deficiency can contribute to hair loss, Angelos says. “Avoid overuse of supplements and medications,” he says. “Since supplements such as testosterone, human growth hormone, whey, and DHEA can cause thinning and hair loss, especially avoid excessive use of these.”
  • Be aware of your nutritional needs. Some fad diets may have a nutritional impact on hair loss. “It’s really important to eat a healthy balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat,” Angelos says. He also recommends taking a multivitamin that includes vitamins A, B complex, C, D and E, along with the minerals zinc, iodine and iron, all of which help with hair health.
  • Avoid unhealthy environments. The negative health effects of smoking are well known, especially related to lung cancer. But one more reason to avoid smoking, Angelos says, is that it can affect hair loss. In addition to smoking, other environmental factors that can contribute to hair loss include environmental exposures like radiation and air pollution.

When efforts to prevent hair loss fall short, those who prefer to avoid baldness can explore the possibilities that modern science provides.

“Not every patient needs hair transplantation, though,” Angelos says. “Especially when it comes to younger patients, it may be best to start with other options. Since the reasons for hair loss vary from person to person and are unique to their circumstances, a good place to start is by determining the cause of hair loss in the first place, and then go from there.”

How To Add Volume While Air-Drying Hair | Bounce Curl Tutorial

Loving this tutorial from Bounce Curl on “How to get volume with air-drying curly hair”

Will you take the 1 month no dry challenge ? Here’s how to get the look:

Step 1: Take ~two quarters worth of Bounce Curl Avocado & Rose Oil Clump and Define Cream and ‘rake’ into hair using fingers on each side

Tip: Do not apply the product too close to your roots or it will weigh them down

Step 2 (optional): For a stronger hold, use ~2 quarters worth of the Bounce Curl’s Light Crème Gel and rake through hair – more in roots and a little less on the bottom

Step 3: Flip your head and clump curls together using the praying hands technique. Clump from roots down

Tip: Make sure your hair is super wet, not just damp. If curls aren’t clumping properly, add more water

Step 4: While hair is flipped over, begin using the ‘scrunch’ method. Flip hair and continue to scrunch on the right and left sides as well

Step 5: Flip hair upside down and spritz Bounce Curl Alcohol-Free Hair Spray 2-3x on the backside of hair. Flip hair back over and spray right and left sides 1-2x

Step 6: Clip hair in the center, right and left sides of hair while hair is flipped upside down to reduce frizz

Step 7: Turn on your favorite Netflix show and wait for your curls to dry!

Step 8: Remove clips, flip hair and fluff using your fingers or a hair pick

Here’s How I Paid Off $5,000 Worth Of Debt & Grew My Credit Score From 450-700 In 3 Months!

I actually cringed when I tried to come up with the title for this blog. The words that come to mind are “Click Bait” but this actually worked. Here are the simple steps I took to get rid of $5,000 worth of debt and jumped from 450-700 in 3 months.

Negotiate Debt in Collections

The first thing you want to do when you have debt is NEGOTIATE! I had a little over $5,000 worth of debt in collections and I brought these amounts down to $2,500 when offering to pay within the same month. Don’t be afraid to call your collectors and make some offers. I had some friends in the Debt Collection Business who gave me this tip and WOW! I used Credit Karma to track my score and get the appropriate information for who I owed and for how much. This boosted my score about 120 points!

Self- A Credit Building Loan

Once I got my Credit down to $0.00 I started looking at more ways to bring my score up. My friend told me about this company called Self, here is how it works:

Self is a credit builder loan. You make monthly payments of the desired amount (You have 3 options, $25, $35, $48 or $150.00) These payments are held by a “Certificate of Deposit insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.” The money is not available to use upfront and is strictly used to help build your credit. By the end of your term, your money will be available to you. In the interim, the company reports your payments to the credit bureau resulting in your credit score going up! The fees associated with this are minimal and worth the 60 points my score went up!

Rent Reporters

I currently live in an apartment community and unless I’m not paying my rent on time, my leasing managers are not reporting. Honestly, at a previous apartment, I remember being more than a month behind and not getting anything on my report. Unless there is a known issue or any evictions your apartment community isn’t going to report your credit. I actually contacted my leasing office requesting them to report my on-time payments and they referred me to this company called Rent Reporters.

The Company verifies your information with your leasing manager and then reports based on their information. Because I was on time, my score went up about 30 points! I paid an upfront cost for this but again, totally worth it!

Pre-Paid Credit Card

This is a more common way to boost up your credit score. I opened up a pre-paid credit card with capital one. I honestly didn’t have many options. (I started this list all at once and my score hadn’t gone up yet) I pre-paid $250.00 and I had a credit limit of $350.00. I kept my utilization under 20% and every month paid it on time. I only used this card to make my 20% purchase to pay it off. My score went up within 3 months another 60 points!

I am so happy that I have been able to bring my score up as much as I have. I’m proud of myself from bringing my score up as much as I have and hope some of these work for you! Results can vary and I have to point out that I am in no way saying I am a professional but, this worked for me and It may work for you!

Covid-19 is a serious virus that has taken most of the world by storm. Businesses are forced to temporarily close, some permanently and millions of job will be lost. We understand that we may not be able to come up with a vaccine or go back in time to stop anyone from allegedly eating a live bat but, we can make it easier, especially for our ladies out there!

Everyday Habits of People with Really Good Skin

As Mona Gohara, an expert dermatologist from Danbury, said, “The key to healthy, younger-
looking skin is to establish good habits early in life that’ll prevent you from having to deal with
issues later on.” Following the afore-mentioned statement, below are some beautifying habits that are meant to make your skin glow and shine the way you want.

Beauty Sleep is a real thing and a comfortable sleeping routine of 7 to 8 hours a day
helps to keep your skin fresh and glowing all day.

Direct Sunlight: Use sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight to skip direct exposure and your skin fresh and healthy.

Healthy Habits: The more relaxed, stress-free and happier you are from within, the better your skin will look and feel. Adopt meditation and a regular exercise routine to avoid
stress and treat yourself with healthy food for fresh and pleasant skin.

Hydration is the key to good and healthy skin. Try moisturizing your skin with milk often. You will be surprised by how your skin looks and feels after. This will help rehydrate your skin for long-lasting results.

Prima Donna Hair Salon | Color Review

This past weekend I decided to search Groupon for a good deal to get my hair done. I know what you’re thinking, this could have gone HORRIBLY wrong but, as someone who was a licensed cosmetologist in NY, I know that hair grows and can always be fixed (Almost always)

I came across Prima Dona Salon close to where I live in Boynton Beach and I was pleasantly surprised. The ad was for partial highlights and a haircut all for $70.00. At first, I thought, this is too good to be true but, I really needed it done. I was also being impulsive and I wanted an appointment within that day or the next day.

Margarita Frias is the hairstylist and she rents a chair in Hair Divine which was very clean, welcoming, and by looking around had lots of happy clients.

Margarita started off by welcoming me as I walked into the salon and explained she would be with me shortly. You could tell this woman was respected and is passionate about her work by the way she interacted with her clients and other stylists. Once my appointment started, she sat me down and we went over what I wanted. I explained I didn’t want a hair cut and requested some low lights in place of this. Usually, when getting a Groupon, there aren’t any exchanges. You either get what’s on Groupon and anything extra would simply be extra. Margarita was nice enough to honor the same price and I was extremely grateful. As we had the initial conversation about expectations, color tone, etc, she made sure she truly knew what I wanted. I showed her pictures and she reiterated back to me what she saw in the picture to make sure we both were on the same page. Most stylists/colorists would look at the picture and get started.

Margarita wasn’t messy with her color and I love how traditional she was with her placement. This was similar to what I was taught in school and honestly, Florida beauticians scare me the way they highlight. She took her time and went back to back highlight and lowlight. At the end, after she washed, she even added extra color to the part that wasn’t highlighted or lowlighted so everything matched and honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference. The color tone was exactly how I wanted, the size, the placement, and all the while was extremely professional.

When I walked in my hair was a washed-out brassy yellow. I had hot pieces from the last time I had it highlighted and the tone was really off and unnatural looking. Margarita truly made me feel so good about myself after I left. I couldn’t be happier.

After all was said and done, I messaged her thanking her for the beautiful color she created and asked how much it would be the next time I came in. Even after the Groupon her pricing was extremely affordable and I will be seeing her on a regular basis. Thank you again, Margarita, for making me feel good about my hair again!

For anyone who is interested, you can reach her on her cell at 305-494-2441 or email her at If you see her, tell her Angie say’s hi!
